Back to developer fantasy land, you’re making $40 an hour. What if you could find someone to do the same work for $5 an hour? What if they were available 24/7 and could work while you were asleep? How much would your time be worth then?

If you could find someone to do the same work for $5 and you were charging $40. You would make $35 an hour right? That’s the common assumption for the starting Project Manager (your new title).

How much time would it take you to find the programmer, explain the project and check the work. Usually from my experience (for a one hour job) only about 10 minutes. So what is your total pay? $35 for ten minutes of work. We are still in fantasy land, so after you have hired someone for $5 to complete your $40 job you go to the next client on your list.

Another $40 project appears, you spend $5 and 10 minutes. This keeps going on 6 times. So in one hour you have made $210 ($35 X 6) as opposed to your previous $40 an hour.

You have just given yourself a 525% percent raise.

One thing to remember is that we are in outsourcing fantasy land where each programmer does exactly the right work; it is always completed on time and to your exact specifications. This of course does not happen all of the time. You will have some programmers cancel, others not respond and some might complete the work incorrectly. If you leave 20 min out of each hour to review and handle these issues, you are still making $140 / hour, 350% raise.

The best part is that outsourcing not only allows you to be more productive and profitable while you work, it also provides these benefits in the time your off work.

Let’s say you work just 8 hours a day, and no more (in fantasy land). This means that you are unproductive (on work issues) for 16 hours of every day. These 16 hours can start making you money. Let’s take a look at the numbers:

Stated before the average project that takes only 1 hour of your time can be done for $5 and 10 minutes leaving 20 minutes of every hour for exceptions. As you will be planning ahead for the next 16 hours this will take some additional time to prepare the work. Let’s give each project an additional 5 minutes to setup. This means each project takes 20 minutes: 10 to find explain and check work. 5 to plan ahead and 5 to cover mistakes. These 20 minutes are split between when you leave work and arrive the next day. We are going to outsource just 6 projects, which means this will take just one hour before you leave work and one hour when you arrive in the morning the next day.

Taking a wage of $35 per project this translates into $210 for 6 projects outsourced while you sleep. After this we need to deduct the $80 of time spent (2 hours) preparing the work and your total profit each night is $130. Over a year (without holidays) this is a $30,000 raise.

Of course the above example is just an example. I wish it were as easy as breaking down projects into 15 minute segments, and each segment only took 15 minutes. Also it’s important to note that no one is a machine. Unfortunately as your work increases, so does the number of people you need to manage. Without a reliable management structure in place this would also increase the number of delays and chance of error. Then there is the waiting list of wealthy clients, which for most developers, doesn’t exist.

So if you could be making $210 an hour during the day, and right now you are only making $40, not outsourcing is actually costing you $170 an hour of lost potential.

Let’s say you take a small job that will take you an hour to complete. For this work, your client, or boss pays you $40. So your wage per hour is $40. This is of course assuming that you have an unlimited amount of clients or a rock solid job, which is why these figures are used as just an example. So you are currently making $40 an hour at a rock solid job or self employed with a waiting list of wealthy clients. Life is good. You set $40 per hour as the cost for 60 minutes of your time.

Change your perspective just a little bit and you can see that there is lost opportunity. I read once that when investing in real estate you should avoid all contact with a hammer, paint and nails. Why? Your job should be a professional check writer, because time spent hammering or painting is time lost doing something more profitable. Actions such as looking for another house to purchase.

Regardless of your current title, I am sure you know there are larger opportunities in your field. Most of the time these opportunities are lost because you are too busy focused on mundane details rather then the bigger picture of what you could be achieving. For over 30 years, I have been meditating. For almost as many years, in workshops, consultations, friendly conversations, and writing, I have been encouraging, teaching, or leading people to meditate and create quiet times. During this time, the world has changed considerably, and so have I. My most important learning is: everyone is different. Certainly there are commonalities in meditating, but each individual is unique. I consider that meditation is one of the most empowering practices that anyone can engage in.

A "quiet revolution" is an oxymoron, of course. Meditation is generally a private, quiet practice. In North America its acceptance has changed dramatically over the last several years, although it is still not universally accepted. As with most revolutions, an underground is established before, during, and after the outward manifestations of the awakening. In this culture which I know, more and more individuals are speaking and writing about their meditation practice.

Meditating in groups is also common and very powerful, and yet each meditator still has a unique, quiet, private experience. In the workplace, meditation is rarely practiced openly, nor is it discussed, except in safe, small groups or among friends. When I was a frequent workshop presenter, I had many participants speak to me privately in hushed tones at break times to confess that they meditate. The voices may not be as hushed these days, but still there is a quietness, even a silence, about the practice in many settings.

I am comfortable with the variety of words used to describe meditation. My own purpose for meditation is to connect with the Divine and be replenished by the Source. Some speak about mystical experiences and higher consciousness, while others are more comfortable talking about relaxation, calmness, and resilience. Heightened awareness, intuition, imagery, and vision are frequently used to describe experiences of meditation. I find that helping others to express their own meditation experiences is a powerful process for them, even when the words do not flow smoothly.

Long-time meditators can find other long-time mediators easily. Meditators give off signals or vibrations that are calmer and more aligned with self than those who do not meditate or do not have a meditative-type practice that taps into higher consciousness. Gardening, yoga, certain athletic activities, and regular relaxation can achieve the same soothing signals when practiced in ways that achieve harmony with self.

No matter how or where you meditate, you must make a choice to meditate and practice it regularly in order to benefit fully. Full benefits come with regular practice over a period of time. Meditating only when stressed may certainly be beneficial in the immediate situation, but the long-term benefits of a regular practice include general well-being, health, a strong immune system, longevity, clarity of thought, and balance.

Meditation is sometimes associated with certain religions. Meditation can be practiced in any and all religions, but the two are not synonymous. In my work, I keep meditation distinct from religion; if my clients choose to join the two, that is fine. Those with strong religious beliefs gravitate to the types of meditation that fit their beliefs. Wikipedia has a comprehensive listing of meditation methods.

Regardless of the chosen method, the benefits of regular meditation, over time, are as varied as the individuals who meditate. It is quite common for long-time meditators to acknowledge they benefit physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

Recently I received an email message from a long-time meditator in India talking about her meditation experiences. It was a delight to read. It became clear to me that she has integrated the same elements that I encourage people to discover and use.

She uses her breath to relax. She has several processes to handle mind chatter and stress so that she is not disturbed by them in her meditation. She has two different "focal points" for her attention. One is a visual focus, a traditional Indian lamp, which she visualizes as divine light that lightens her heart. Another focal point is one of the most famous mantras, Om, which she chants repeatedly, finding that it takes only a brief time to achieve the state of consciousness that is her purpose for meditation. And she has a regular practice.

Her message was a beautiful summary of what many long-term meditators might report. While working with both new and long-time meditators, I have discovered that the most difficult aspect of meditation is to practice it regularly. All the elements of meditation are easy to understand, but to sit and do it challenges many new meditators.

If you have not meditated before, it may seem mysterious. However, meditation is simple. I recommend a maximum of twenty minutes for new meditators. Here are the elements:

Arrange time when you will not be disturbed;

Sit in a comfortable position and relax;

Close your eyes, unless you prefer an open-eye meditation;

Breathe intentionally for a few breaths;

Choose a focal point, such as music, a chant, a pleasing image, a guiding voice;

Stay with the focal point; if your mind wanders, gently return to the focal point;

Bring the meditation to a close and return to your activities, refreshed.

If this is your first time meditating, you may feel that "nothing is happening" during the first few times you sit to meditate. That is a common sensation. At the end of your chosen meditation time, simply get up and continue with your day. The benefits are cumulative, which is why I advocate a regular practice.

If you want to meditate, yet are not meditating or are not meditating as frequently as you want, please be gentle with yourself. While it is true that only you can sit down and do it, you can also find ways to make it more appealing. In order to have a meditation practice, you must practice meditation. Above all else, follow your heart and trust your own inner guidance.

Authors who don’t want people to package their book with other products, do this because there’s less of a chance that their book will get read. It's understandable. If you download a package of 50 E-books, what are the chances that you will read all those books? When the author says that you can buy and resell his/her book, but can’t sell it below a suggested price then just don’t do it.

It's bad business if you do it, and lowering the price will not actually help you to sell more copies. People want "more value", not "lower price".

That’s why resell rights products are such hot sellers. They promise big rewards with little effort.

Since so many newbie’s are jumping online to find easy ways to earn an income, their eyes almost pop out of their sockets when they see a site selling “300 products that you can resell yourself and keep all the profit for only 10 bucks!”.

No doubt, that is a great bargain. But a bargain is not going to make you any money. If you can’t sell one product... how are you going to sell 300 different products?

In my opinion, a majority of products that come with resell rights packages are not worth 1/10th of their suggested retail price they say they’re worth.

E-book marketers like to tell you that you’re getting “X” amount of dollars in value For their package. In many cases, that number is usually cranked up to make the product look more valuable. When the author says that you can buy and resell his/her book, but can’t sell it below a suggested price then just don’t do it.

Keep in mind to do your own research, and this not only to protect yourself, but also to protect all your customers from any possible complaints, or in the worst case, a lawsuit.

There are issues

There are issues and challenges with using a PTO program as well. With the ability to take more time off, staffing can become an issue around popular holiday weekends. This is easily handled by requiring your employees to gain approval prior to taking time off. Another issue can be that employees do not want to use their PTO due to illness. They can start to view all PTO as vacation time. This can lead to "on the job sick days" where employees will come into work, but are not very productive and can spread illnesses to their co-workers.

Regardless of what plan you decide to follow, a more traditional sick and vacation plan or a paid time off plan, make sure that you do the following:

1.Make sure whatever plan you pick fits your work environment and whatever plan you pick, you should stick with it.

2.Establish a clear plan in advance and put it in writing so all staff understand the plan and are treated equally. Ideally, it should be a part of your employee handbook.

3.Make sure that you are managing your employees and not your PTO plan. Don't forget that you are offering this as a benefit to your employees but you also have a responsibility to make sure that you are adequately staffed at all times.

It could be said that the new regulations regarding car donation, which came into effect during the 2005 tax season, actually make it easier to avoid audit, since there is far less wiggle room to maneuver within. However, to actually take a legal deduction from your taxes, there will need to be some forms filed and receipts gathered.

The extent to which you are required to prove the worth of your charitable donation, given to a IRS approved 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization (NPO), is determined by the likely value of the gift. That said, one doesn't always know what the sale of their car will fetch in the marketplace, regardless of what some chart may tell you. The actual price your car donation fetches will be your deductible value, and this can actually be rather low when sold on the wholesale market, especially by a third-party agency that facilitates car donation for NPOs that lack the facilities or manpower to handle such donations themselves.

Begun several decades ago by the Goodwill Corporation to train their employees and recycle unwanted vehicles, car donation programs were designed to be offered by NPOs alone to serve a direct and needy market. In the 1990s, a tremendous upsurge in for-profit organizations that spent a great deal of money on advertisements created a rapidly expanding trend of even lower-middle class individuals using car donation to reap the charitable tax deductions offered by the receiving agents.

When assessing your car donation, one must really consider what it is worth on the market, both if you sell it yourself and if you use another agency to sell it on the wholesale market for you. One can assume anywhere from 20-60% of the value of the retail market in such sales. Since a great many NPOs still use third-party (over 95% being for-profit organizations according to a scathing 2002 investigative article) intermediaries to manage the pickups, title-transfers and sales, you should give some hard consideration to how you want to handle your own car donation.

Many people choose to fix up and sell their own vehicles, preferring to pay tax on that "income" and give the remainder to the charity of their choice. Everyone, after all, takes cash. This way you also act as your own "middle man," giving your time as well as the donated value of your car. You could even sell that car for scrap, have it hauled away, and give the proceeds to the charity, cutting out that sometimes very expensive middle step of involving a car donation facilitator.

Regardless of how you go about it, if a non-cash gift to a charity is likely to fetch less than $250, you don't need any sort of receipt from the NPO – the IRS will, in this case, take you at your word. All you need to supply is the name of the charitable organization that received your car donation, the date of the car donation, and the place the donation took place at.

However, if the value of your car donation is $250 or greater, you'll need to get a receipt from the charity that is officially registered as an NPO or charity by the IRS. If you want to check up on a given charity's status, they should be able to provide you with a non-profit tax ID number that you can then check against the IRS database. This receipt should be dated and indicate what use the vehicle was to be put to, even if it is just for sale.

Car donations destined for immediate sale are typically not valued for tax purposes until the sale has been made. Instead, one will receive a temporary receipt that indicates a transfer of title and a forthcoming receipt to be used for determining your deduction.

This is most often true of vehicles worth over $500. Such vehicles must be accompanied by Form 8283 (section A only) that the authorized charity issues along with their own receipt of car donation monies. In a perfect world, those separate car donation and charitable income figures will match up with each other as well as the amounts people are deducting from their personal or family income taxes, as they assuredly didn't before 2005.

Sale values over $5,000 must also be accompanied by an appraisal from an independent agent that can verify the fair market value of any car donation. Now that one must present proof of how much their car donation earned at auction, there is little reason to make any kind of error when valuing your car donation for deductible purposes

This is always one of the biggest selling points for any health insurance policy offering peace of mind if the worst was to happen, so this is obviously a big factor for any parents thinking they need to get health insurance cover for their children.

So what is out there for any parents looking into getting private health insurance for their children? There are just as many health care plans for children as there are for adults, as with most health insurance plans the big advantage is the option of choice. If your child was to fall ill or needed an operation, with the right cover you will have a choice of hospitals and time frame for which your child can get the relevant treatment he or she needs.

It is true that all this can be found on the NHS but if you can afford the best care for your child why wouldn’t you? One major reason may be, how many children need serious medical care, and even if they do need it more often than not the NHS well have more than adequate medical care for your child.

Taking for example the Tesco health care deal for children, what is available for those who apply for it? According to Tesco, the insurance offers fast access to medical professionals for private consultations, tests and diagnoses. Private treatment is also covered in case a child needs surgery and cannot be treated within six weeks on the NHS.

So the simple question any parent needs to ask them self is does my child really need health insurance? And Oprah goes to many functions and parties, and having to dissect healthy food choices from gourmet dinners takes more will power than one can have. All food served in restaurants and at parties is made to taste good, and you know what that means in terms of calories and fat content.

Every author or person with their special cause would sell their first born to be on her show…And when her book club choices come out…we are all waiting with baited breath.…It is hard to fathom how many books could be sold by just one mention from Oprah.

She certainly has enough money to retire… and perhaps just play, but she goes on. She has done so much good in her life by helping people with her angel network, her special giveaways, her voice and more.

The following memory tips are for all ages. Although memory loss often comes with old age, that does not mean it is a necessary result of aging. In fact, there are often specific causes, and a declining ability to remember things can be reversed in many cases. Here are some quick tips to get you started.

1. Avoid cigarettes. Smoking is linked to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Even before there is a diagnosis, there may be reduced blood flow, and therefore reduced oxygen to the brain. That decreases brain function in general, and memory in particular.

2. Avoid toxic drugs. This includes most illegal drugs, but also many prescription drugs. The following have been associated with memory loss after prolonged use: Lithium, digitalis, reserpine, Inderal (propanolol), Aldomet (methyldopa), and Tagamet (cimetidine). Some high blood pressure medications have been linked to memory loss as well.

3. Relax. Chronic stress releases cortisol, which at high levels interferes with the part of the brain that handles recent memories. This part of the brain has even been shown to shrink after long periods of stress. Take several deep breaths through your nose several times daily, while letting the tension drain from your body, or practice regular meditation.

4. Get proper nutrition. There are probably many nutritional factors that affect memory. It is known that brain function can be negatively impacted by a deficiency in vitamin B-12, folate and niacin. If you suspect that memory lapses might be due to deficiencies, you can have a blood test to check the levels of these vitamins in your system. Or you could try taking some good supplements to see if that helps.

5. Treat your head well. It is well known that severe head trauma can cause loss of brain function, but the evidence is growing that the cumulative effect of repeated minor injuries can do the same. Wear a helmet when bicycling or in any situation where you might hit your head on something.

6. Keep exercising that memory. This may be the easiest of these memory tips to put into practice. Just start learning something new, or start an intellectually challenging hobby. Even doing crossword puzzles regularly has been shown to slow the decline of age-related memory loss.

Trying to stay true to the principles of organic and natural living is not as easy as you think it should be. In our culture we have become acclimated to certain conditions that have only been achieved through the use of chemicals. From doing the laundry, to washing cars and tending our yards, we have invented a chemical for nearly every task. Keep your yard on a regular mowing plan so that the plants are at a good height for the grass only. This way your grass will receive more of the soil, water and sunlight than the weeds. Grass loves to be mowed, whereas weeds are damaged by it. The act of mowing keeps the yard looking good in more ways than one.

Here is one other method for weed control that has been all but forgotten. We are so inclined these days to gravitate to the solutions that take no time and no effort. This forgotten method I am talking about can become an activity for quality family time together. It can get you out into the fresh air and give you great exercise. This method is simply going out into your yard and pulling the weeds by hand or with digging tools.

The requirements to obtain a coveted position with the DEA are as follows. You need to be a United States citizen, you will need to be over 21 years of age but not older than 37. There will be a medical exam that includes a physical; if you have a hearing aide, it will disqualify you from the test.

There will also be a psychological and in-depth interview session. Your past drug use will need to be explained. This is not grounds for dismissal but very important because you will be given a polygraph test. You will have to take a drug test and a background investigation will need to be passed in order to gain employment with the DEA.

These tests may take up to 12 months to complete. If you pass all the required tests you will be trained for 16-weeks at the DEA training academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Industrial manufacturing environments

Industrial manufacturing environments must always have safety as a first priority. It is simply good business practice to design a manufacturing facility so that all safety hazards are minimized as much as possible. It is also required by law and code that the many safety rules be implemented. These rules may refer to toxic fumes and materials, physical dangers on moving equipment, proper signage and lighting, and flammable and explosive materials.

Explosion and fire hazards can occur for many reasons. Any area that uses or produces a wide range of chemicals and solvents may be candidates for this type of danger. Many fuels present similar a similar hazard, as do explosive materials. Even dusty environments can be dangerous in this manner.

Different environments can be rated at different levels of hazard, depending on the severity of the danger. In the United States and certain other countries, these levels are divided into “Class”, “Division” and “Group”. Some standards are Class I, Class II and Class III, Division 1 or Division 2, and Groups A, B, C, D, E, F and G. There are other terms, such as nonincendive, which can further describe the hazard. Europe uses a somewhat different set of classifications, and there are similar systems in use around the world. Once a specific manufacturing facility area has received a classification, it must make sure that anything used in that area meets the hazardous specifications. This applies to anything within the area, including light fixtures, power outlets, motors, mixers, computers, and measuring devices, including industrial scales.

The best type of rating available for electronic scales that are meant to be used in hazardous locations is “Intrinsically Safe”. This means that the scale has been designed in such a way that it cannot cause a hazardous situation, even if a failure was to occur. These Intrinsically Safe scales are often suitable for a wide range of Classes, Divisions and Groups. Generally, this type of industrial scale will have a self contained power supply that by its design, can not supply a significant amount of energy. This may be a small battery unit that has internally connected power limiters. So even if the power outputs were shorted, there would not be enough energy to ignite a flame or explosion.

Most digital scales require more energy than the specifications will allow, so they cannot obtain a rating as an explosion proof scale. Some specially designed intrinsically safe scales, such as those produced by Arlyn Scales, need such a small amount of energy that they can meet these requirements.
